Understanding requirements, Expert delivery:
Global Logistics Solutions is a 3rd Party Logistics company offering multimodal transportation services to wide variety of markets. Although GLS had an existing website, our business model was modified and it was decided that we needed to totally redesign the site to provide the ability for our customers to book and track shipments on line as well as enable GLS to link internal processes to one database for efficiency and consistency in operations. This resulted in a complex set of requirements for the proposed site. A three phase approach was established. The first phase was to push the business to the web. The second phase was automate internal processes by linking our financial system to the web database and creating “canned” on demand and real time reports. The third phase is to link our system to key customers and suppliers eliminating the need to manually enter transactions and provide advance notification of future shipments. This posed some challenges in database development, layout, and logic.

After some preliminary discussion, Webfodder was chosen to develop our website. Although GLS provided Webfodder with a good deal of guidance, we were continuously impressed with the close working relationship, access to Webfodder team members, their ability to quickly understand what we were trying to accomplish and the expertise of the Webfodder team in the key areas of database development, coding, and graphics. Webfodder comprehended and incorporated many features that were not discussed but required for future development.

Our website is central to our business success and is considered to be a work in progress. With a never ending emphasis on development and improvements, and based on Webfodder’s performance to date, we anticipate a continued and long business relationship. When we needed to develop an Internet store we turned to Webfodder for advice. Working with the staff at Webfodder we came up with Atlanticspice.com. Atlanticspice.com is a user-friendly web-based store that allows our customers to place orders on-line. It uses a UPS real-time shipping module to estimate shipping cost and sends the customer an e-mail order confirmation. The admin page allows an easy way to add or delete products, up-date prices, upload images and download our orders.

Our business has evolved from primarily receiving mail or telephone orders to the point that the majority of our customers today place their orders online. Feedback from our customers has been very positive, they respond that our Internet store is fast, easy to navigate and secure.
